Senior racing and wagering executive Jason Scott has stepped in as the chief executive of Australia’s seventh-largest betting company, Amused Group, after Matchday Group acquired the assets of the Melbourne-based wagering and technology company.

A new licence for the company’s 10 brands has been issued by the Northern Territory Wagering Commission after a deal which has been many months in the making.

Scott steps in to run Amused Group’s brands while founders Colby Paulding and Noah Rose have departed along with the chief financial officer.

The company runs betting brands Bet Nation, Bet Deluxe, Surge, Noisy, Pulse Bet, Big Bet, Yes Bet, MightyBet, BetExpress and BetJet.

The combination of all those brands made Amused Group the seventh biggest bookmaker in Australia.

The Straight understands all 10 active brands will continue under Scott, who has departed The Booki Group, where he was CEO for 14 months, having previously been chief executive of Racing Queensland.

He will be assisted in an advisory capacity by respected wagering industry figure Adrian Molloy, who will work in a commercial and stakeholder role, while Scott looks to rebuild an executive team.

Adam Bennett, who previously worked in a senior legal role for Entain, will step into the role as acting general counsel while the existing general counsel is on extended leave.

It is also understood that Amused Group’s technical platform Black Stream will continue to power the wagering brands.

“This leadership group, with a new finance lead, will see a significant change in strategic direction. This, coupled with existing talent in the business and improvements in operational excellence, will provide revenue uplift,” a statement from new management said.

“From a front-end customer point there will be no changes and the super fast payment of withdrawals will continue.”

Scott confirmed to The Straight that he assumed his duties on Friday after the transfer of the licence, and the requisite approvals from several state-based racing bodies were received Friday morning.

The first bets under the new licence were processed around 11:30am Friday.
