Jimmysstar back to boost Per Incanto’s fortunes in William Reid
Three-time Group 1 winner Jimmystar is favourite to begin his autumn campaign as he ended his spring preparation, with the consistent sprinter set to resume in Saturday’s Group 1 William Reid at Caulfield.
The six-year-old gelding’s comeback, having run third in The Everest before winning the Russell Balding and C F Orr Stakes to round out his last preparation, will help the chances of his New Zealand-based sire Per Incanto’s push towards the top three on the Australian sires’ premiership this season.
The Ciaron Maher-trained Jimmysstar ($1.90) leads the market ahead of Yulong stallion prospect Angel Capital ($6) and the in-form sprinter Jigsaw ($8), who dictated the Vobis Gold Sprint last Saturday at Caulfield to score by 3.5 lengths.
The Little Avondale Stud-based Per Incanto is sixth on the Australian sires’ table with $11.388 million in progeny earnings, $5.2 million behind leader Snitzel, a four-time champion sire.
Jimmysstar has contributed $4.53 million to Per Incanto’s Australian earnings this season.
