JJ Atkins winner Cool Archie to stand at Newhaven Park
Group 1-winning two-year-old Cool Archie will stand at Newhaven Park at Boorowa, the place of his birth, after studmaster John Kelly struck a deal with owner Max Whitby.

Newhaven Park has added Group 1 JJ Atkins Stakes winner Cool Archie to its stallion roster, with the colt set to stand at the farm where he was bred later this year.
Stud principal John Kelly said the acquisition had been completed in recent days, with plans underway to syndicate the colt ahead of the 2026 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, where his full brother will be offered as Lot 225.
Cool Archie will stand for an introductory fee of $16,500 (inc GST).
A first-crop son of Cool Aza Beel, Cool Archie emerged as a standout during the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival, winning five consecutive races including the JJ Atkins after earlier victories in the Dalrello Stakes, Champagne Classic and BRC Sires’ Produce.
Raced by owner Max Whitby, his sequence mirrored the previous season’s achievement of Broadsiding, who also completed the BRC Sires’ Produce–JJ Atkins double before retiring to stud.
Cool Archie’s racing career ended after he sustained an injury in winning a barrier trial at Ipswich in December, retiring with five wins from nine starts and a placing in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes.
“There have been very few two-year-olds capable of putting together five wins in succession, four of those being long established Queensland stakes races, and for me it is one of his major selling points,” Kelly said.
“His win in the JJ Atkins obviously made him a potential stallion prospect, and we didn’t hesitate to show our interest when it was confirmed that his racing career had unfortunately concluded prematurely.
“The manner of his winning streak was one of the highlights of the 2024/25 racing season, and the strength of his performances is stacking up strongly through the likes of Grafterburners, who he comfortably defeated on three occasions, and Torque To Be Sure franking the form with their respective Magic Millions Sunlight Plate and Magic Millions 3YO Guineas wins.”
