Injured apprentice Tom Prebble has been transferred to a rehabilitation clinic as his condition remains unchanged following a spinal cord injury.

In a statement, Victorian Jockeys Association chief executive Matt Hyland said Prebble had left the Austin Hospital’s spinal care unit and is now in the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre.

“Speaking with Tom, he has advised that four weeks on from his fall, he has no feeling or sensation below the T4 level of his spine,” Hyland said.

“With the support of the outstanding team at Talbot, Tom has already learned to transfer from his wheelchair to bed, in and out of a car, and has begun working through the many challenges associated with a spinal cord injury.”

Prebble was injured when he was dislodged from his mount in a race at Warrnambool on September 9.

Hyland said that surgery to stabilise the T4 fracture in Prebble’s spine was successful, and that a hard neck brace remains in place for a separate fracture, pending a review in the coming days.

Prebble’s primary goal is to be able to return home before the end of the year.
