Johnstone’s four-timer for Maher
Apprentice Jabez Johnstone continued his extraordinary recent run with four winners on a marquee midweek meeting for the former Tasmanian.
Johnstone has made a huge impression on Victorian riding ranks since coming across Bass Strait, with all four winners at Sandown Hillside coming for his new master Ciaron Maher.
On a heavy track, he guided Stay Silent to victory in Race 3, Blue Willow home in Race 4, Fiore De Trione home in front in Race 5 and completed his four-timer aboard Here’s Matilda in Race 7.
He was also runner-up in Race 2 aboard the Maher-trained Nordic Strike and was also a narrow second in Race 6 aboard stablemate Missapprehend. The combined margin of half a length in those two defeats cost him a six-timer.
In the final race, he finished third on another Maher runner, Jenni You Think.
He now has 24 metropolitan winners in Victoria at an impressive strike rate of 29 per cent.
Johnstone, 20, recently rode his 100th career winner.
