King Of Light favoured to upstage older rivals in Northerly Stakes

The barrier draw has been locked in for the $1.5 million Northerly Stakes with the Perth-trained three-year-old King Of Light a dominant favourite for the Group 1 race bat Ascot.

King Of Light cemented his place in the feature with a brilliant WA Guineas (1600m) win against his own age and has since tightened to $2.50 favouritism after the draw.

Trained by Dan Morton, King Of Light has drawn a middle barrier in gate eight for champion West Australian jockey William Pike.

Stablemate Pure Excess, the only filly in the field, has drawn much deeper in barrier 15.

Lindsay Park’s in-form Apulia ($11) heads the interstate challenge after an unbeaten spring in Melbourne.

Apulia will be joined as an eastern states raider by Vivy Air, Depth Of Character and Osipenko.
