Laminitis claims Darley stallion Frosted
Godolphin homebred and Darley stallion Frosted has been euthanised at age 14 following an acute episode of laminitis,
The son of Tapit will be laid to rest at Jonabell Farm near Lexington, where he had stood since retiring to stud, as well as shuttling to Australia on six occasions.
“Our team is deeply saddened by Frosted’s passing, but it was our only option given the dire circumstances,” said Godolphin managing director Dan Pride.
“Frosted was an exceptional and exciting racehorse and an accomplished sire. He was also a tremendous fan favourite for the thousands of visitors who have come through Jonabell over the years.”
Trained for Godolphin by Kiaran McLaughlin, Frosted delivered one of the most memorable performances in modern racing when capturing the G1 Metropolitan Handicap in 2016. He also captured the G1 Whitney Stakes, G1 Wood Memorial Stakes and G1 Pennsylvania Derby.
At stud, he has produced 37 black-type winners, five of them in Australia, headed by Australian Group winners Ingratiating and Cloudy, the former which stands at Oakland Park Stud in WA.
