Lloyd’s Durban July ride injured, out of Grade 1
Australian jockey Zac Lloyd’s ride in the prestigious Durban July in South Africa has been withdrawn from the race by leading trainer Justin Snaith due to an untimely injury.
Despite the loss of his mount in the Grade 1 Durban July, Africa’s biggest race, Lloyd is expected to ride one of five other potential Snaith-trained runners in the R10 million (A$870,600) race, to be held on Saturday, July 4.
“Happy Verse has unfortunately sustained a workout injury and was examined by the vet late this morning (Monday). Following a thorough assessment, it was confirmed that the injury will rule him out for the remainder of the current season and potentially for a period thereafter,” Snaith told Race Coast.
Snaith also has Wish List, Legal Counsel, Note To Self, Native Ruler and Regulation still in the entries for the Durban July.
Lloyd, who rode Guest House to win this year’s Golden Slipper, completed a successful stint riding in the UK, winning seven races.
It included a victory at Royal Ascot in the Britannia Stakes on Moonfall for trainer George Boughey.
