Paddy Power reviews shopfront presence in Ireland, UK
Bookmaker Paddy Power is reassessing its network of high street betting shops as changing customer habits and new regulations reshape the gambling landscape in Ireland.
Parent company Flutter Entertainment plans to shut 29 outlets across Ireland and Northern Ireland and a further 28 in Britain.
Flutter said it evaluating its retail presence was ongoing but emphasised that physical stores remain a central part of its offering.
“We are continually reviewing our high street estate, but it remains a key part of our offer to customers, and we are seeking to innovate and invest where we can as we adapt to different customer trends and needs,” a spokesperson said.
Like most wagering firms, Paddy Power has increasingly focused on expanding its digital operations to meet the evolving preferences of Irish and international customers.
Two years ago, the bookmaker closed 21 outlets across Ireland, and the total number of its Irish premises could now fall below 200.
The company has not yet confirmed which specific shops may be affected by the latest review.
But the changes come as Ireland’s gambling landscape undergoes major reform.
The establishment of the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) earlier this year marks a new era of oversight and regulation, with tighter rules expected to impact how betting companies operate both online and on the high street.
