Bellamy’s Rocky road trip pays off with Peter Profit

Peter Profit has lived up to his barrier trial form with a debut victory at Rockhampton in Central Queensland on Friday, making the long road trip worth it for trainer Jay Bellamy and delivering a third first crop winner for Newgate Farm-based sire Profiteer.

The Beaudesert-based Bellamy made the long trip north with two-year-old gelding Peter Profit after three barrier trial wins, which saw bookmakers install him as a long odds-on favourite.

Starting an easing $1.60 favourite at the jump, Peter Profit proved too good for his rivals, winning by a length and a half in the 1100m two-year-old maiden.

Bred by retired Group 1-winning jockey Scott Seamer, Peter Profit was a $28,000 purchase by his trainer from last year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Profiteer is also the sire of the stakes-placed gelding Star Of Jamaica.
