Patience set to pay off for Noble Decree
Sunshine Coast trainer David Vandyke’s reputation for patience and careful horse placement will again be on show when Noble Decree resumes in a low-key assignment at Ipswich on Wednesday.
The talented four-year-old, a $400,000 purchase from the Karaka yearling sales in New Zealand, has been deliberately handled by Vandyke and will return alongside stablemate Flying Shelly in the Class 4 Handicap over 1200 metres.
A son of Little Avondale-based sire Per Incanto, Noble Decree is raced by prominent Queensland owners Ron and Judy Wanless and has been lightly campaigned, recording three wins and four seconds from just nine starts.
“Ron is very patient with his horses and he’s happy for me to take my time with him and it seems to be working,” Vandyke told Racing Queensland.
“Noble Decree has been working well and finished third in a barrier trial over 850 metres,” Vandyke said.
“He had a solid trial and has come on nicely since. This is a nice race for him to kick off his preparation as he’s got good ability. It’s been hard to find a suitable race to start off over the summer carnival but eventually we hope he’ll be a Saturday winner in town.”
The Wanlesses enjoyed further success on the weekend when they won the $300,000 Grand Prix Stakes with Matias, trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
