Price comfortable with Guest House’s Golden Rose path

Mick Price’s decision to skip the Run To The Rose with Guest House is two-fold, with the trainer revealing the Golden Slipper-winning colt had felt his track record-breaking San Domenico Stakes win first-up and he wants to keep freshness in his legs for 1200m sprints later in the spring.

The three-year-old son of Home Affairs will go straight to the Golden Rose, a race Price and Mick Kent Jnr won with Jacquinot in 2022, four weeks between runs.

“That track, when he raced first-up, they were breaking class records, he broke the track record, which was a bit of a surprise to me. I think that track was a lot firmer than what the rating would suggest, and I thought he was a bit jarry for a few days there afterwards,” Price told Racing.com.

“We don’t need to race and race. I think four weeks between runs is fine. I think he will turn up in beautiful condition in the 1400m (Golden Rose).”

The plan is to drop him back to 1200m after the Golden Rose for The Everest, with the colt likely to run in the Coolmore-owned slot where he will at this stage come up against $1.40 favourite Ka Ying Rising and Godolphin’s Tempted.

“They were outstanding, both of them,” he said.

“I look at them and say, ‘Wow, what a race The Everest will be and what a pair of horses they are’.”
