Queen’s Gamble cashes in at Warwick Farm

The Matthew Smith-trained Queen’s Gamble landed the $100,000 Super Maiden (1300m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday in a victory that came with a $100,000 Inglis Xtra bonus to her prizemoney haul.

The three-year-old Anders filly had finished in the placings at each of her first three starts this preparation, including two metropolitan seconds, before powering clear of short-priced favourite Satin Serenade.

Tommy Berry, who had partnered Queen’s Gamble at her first two runs back, retained the ride and was rewarded after settling patiently before sending her to the lead in the straight.

A $25,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale purchase from Widden Stud, Queen’s Gamble has now recorded a win and three placings from four starts for her syndicate of stable clients, taking her overall return on the racetrack to almost $200,000.

“She came off a good farm being Widden Stud-bred and wasn’t an expensive yearling, but was a really good type and it’s great to see her pull this race off today,” Smith said.

Smith indicated a stakes race would be considered for the filly, who is the second winner from four foals to race out of unraced Zoustar mare Gifted Queen.
