Racing WA is giving you the chance to turn your dream of owning a racehorse into reality.
Western Australia’s racing regulator is once again running its popular Own The Dream: The Ultimate Racehorse Ownership Competition, providing vouchers of up to $20,000 to spend on a yearling at the fast-approaching 2025 Magic Millions Perth Sale.
So, gather your friends, register your team of four to eight people - places are limited - and join the excitement that only racehorse ownership can deliver by immersing yourself in WA racing by attending three free events.
Participants will get the chance to meet with trainers, syndicators and industry professionals who will guide you through everything you need to know about racehorse ownership.
By attending the competition events, teams will earn entries into the draw for major prizes. Each event you attend increases your chances of winning.
The first place prize is a $20,000 voucher towards a Westspeed Platinum-eligible yearling at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale. The second place prize is a $15,000 voucher, and the third place prize is $10,000.
If you don’t finish in the top three, don’t despair. All non-winning teams receive a $1500 voucher towards starting their ownership journey.
Only 40 teams will be approved, so make your submission count. Importantly, to be eligible, at least half of your team members must be first-time owners.
The first event - Ownership 101 - will be held on Friday, January 31, where 40 teams will gather at The Camfield to liaise with Western Australia’s leading trainers and syndicators who will provide you with unique insights into the wonderful world of racing.
On February 9, a stable and stud tour will be held at Ryan Hill’s training property before a bus ride to Darling View Thoroughbreds where visitors will get to meet record-breaking WA stallion Playing God while enjoying a gourmet barbecue lunch.
The third and final event, the Grand Finale Race Day, will take place at Pinjarra Park on Saturday, February 15, where teams will take in Magic Millions race day from an exclusive marquee.
Gerry Harvey and Katie Page, co-owners of Magic Millions, are firmly behind the Racing WA ownership concept and they are committed to the state’s thoroughbred industry for the long term.
“Yes, we may be unashamedly biased about the wonderful world of racing. However ,when you experience getting on track with your fellow owners, see your name listed in the racebook, listen to your trainer and jockey discuss tactics pre-race and watch your very first horse behind the barriers with anticipation, then you will understand why for so many of us racing and ownership is a lifelong passion,” they said.
Underlining the success of the Own The Dream promotion, voucher-purchased mares Bonjoy and Own The Queen ran the quinella in the Listed Starstruck Classic on December 14, providing their large group of first-time owners with immense satisfaction and lifelong memories.
Well-known racing and media identity Brittany Taylor, whose family is entrenched in Western Australia racing, is an unabashed fan of Own The Dream for which she has been an ambassador of the popular scheme for the past eight years.
Taylor part-owned her first racehorse when she was just 18 and it was the best introduction to ownership she could have asked for. Thateldo won six of his first 13 starts and placed at the other seven and she’s been hooked ever since.
“Getting to see past entrants enjoy success on the track is a true joy,” Taylor said.
“Every weekend I find myself cheering home runners of past teams.”
