Russian Camelot on a winning roll
Second-season Widden Victoria-based stallion Russian Camelot continues his strong run of recent results, with The Flying Popov becoming his fifth winner in his past eight starters with a victory at Seymour on Tuesday.
Trained by Chris Waller and owned by a group led by Brad Spicer, The Flying Popov started odds-on favourite in a 1429-metre maiden and won comfortably with Damian Lane in the saddle.
Since Beyond Question won a race at Great Western on January 24, fellow Russian Camelot three-year-olds Veyepee, Tsarevich and Orlova have also broke their maidens.
It was broadly expected that the progeny Russian Camelot, who overcome his northern hemisphere foaling date to win a South Australian Derby at three against the older horses, would improve greatly in the second half of their three-year-old seasons.
The son of Camelot now has 11 winners from 34 runners.
