Windsor Park Stud principal Rodney Schick has resigned as a director of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing effective immediately.
Schick was seriously injured in a tragic accident involving an all terrain vehicle at Cambridge in early May, an incident which claimed the life of his son Jimmy, 10. Another son, Oli, was also injured.
The respected thoroughbred breeder had been on the NZTR board since March 2024.
NZTR chair Russell Warwick thanked Schick for his contribution to the administration of the sport.
“His professionalism and extensive racing and breeding knowledge have helped guide NZTR through a period of meaningful progress,” Warwick said.
“We are grateful for the time and energy he has dedicated to our sport.”
NZTR chief executive Matt Ballesty was appreciative of Schick’s commitment to the industry and was understanding of his decision to step back from his board duties.
“His deep understanding of the industry, particularly from a breeding and commercial perspective through his leadership of Windsor Park Stud alongside his wife, Gina, has brought valuable perspective to our discussions,” Ballesty said.
Windsor Park Stud reported in late May that Rodney and Oli Schick were recovering well.
NZTR will undertake a process to fill the board vacancy in due course.
