Slipper winner’s half-brother dominant on debut

Lancelot Du Lac, the half‑brother to Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot and fellow stakes performers Queen Of The Ball and Platinum Jubilee, won impressively on debut at Randwick.

The three-year-old Flying Artie colt trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, saluted in the Precise Air Handicap (1300m) in the colours of Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock.

Jockey Adam Hyeronimus settled Lancelot Du Lac in second before launching his run on the turn.

The colt quickly reeled in the leader and surged clear, leaving Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou’s Bello Cavallo to finish second from midfield.

“Very impressed for him to do that in his first race start,” Hyeronimus said.

“He jumped really well, with the blinkers on first time and to chase a leader like that, I was always sort of confident through the run, but it’s not easy for a horse first time out to be carting the rest of the field up, but not only that, he won dominantly.”
