Leading Victorian apprentice Tom Prebble has had spinal surgery in a Melbourne hospital after a race fall at Warrnambool.
Prebble, 23, was treated by on-course paramedics before being flown by Ambulance Victoria to The Alfred in a serious condition.
The son of former jockeys Brett Prebble and Maree Payne, Prebble fell when his mount Pulveriser appeared to clip heels about 700m from the finish.
A Victorian Jockeys’ Association statement on Wednesday said: “(Prebble) is being supported by medical and nursing staff. His condition will be monitored.
“The family would like to thank everyone for their messages of support, checking on Thomas and his well-being. It is greatly appreciated.
“In order for the family to devote their time and energy to provide as much support as they can to Thomas, it is kindly requested that their privacy be respected.”
Prebble won last season’s Rising Stars series for Victorian apprentices and rode a winning treble at Flemington in June for his best day at a metropolitan level.
