Sydney to host national and state thoroughbred racing awards on same night

Royal Randwick will host Racing’s Night of Champions 2026 on August 27, with state and national thoroughbred racing awards to be presented on the same program.

The NSW Racehorse Owners Association event will recognise leading horses, trainers and jockeys from New South Wales and across Australia for the 2025/26 season.

NSWROA president Tony Mitevski said the combined format would give the awards broader national significance.

“Racing’s Night of Champions will showcase the highest achievers in our sport on one stage,” Mitevski said.

He said the event would also allow racing fans to attend alongside trainers, jockeys, owners and industry participants.

Racing Australia chief executive Paul Eriksson said voting was under way across 11 national award categories, including Australian Racehorse of the Year.

“All eleven national award categories, including the Australian Racehorse of the Year, are shaping up to be very hotly contested,” Eriksson said.

The black-tie event will be held in the Winx Stand and broadcast nationally on SKY Thoroughbred Central.
