Esteemed breeding and racing veterinarian Dr Jim Rodger, described as a true pioneer of modern-day equine medicine, has died.

Arriving in Australia from Newmarket in the UK during the 1970s, Rodger joined the Morgan Howey Fraser equine veterinary practice at Scone before opening his own clinic at Jerrys Plains.

He played a key role in Jack and Bob Ingham’s Woodlands Stud and mentored many industry professionals within Australia and internationally.

Rodger was also one of the co-founders of Scone Horse Week, the Hunter Valley celebration that has been at the forefront of establishing Scone as the horse capital of Australia.

Until his death, Rodger’s expertise and specialist skills in equine reproduction were still sought after as he continued to conduct his successful practice at Jerrys Plains.
