Trainer suspended over social media comments

Taree trainer Glen Milligan has been suspended for two months with another two months held over by Racing NSW stewards over a series of social media posts.

A stewards inquiry found that Milligan had made Facebook posts over a number of days containing what it said were “improper comments that were prejudicial to the image, interests, integrity and welfare of racing, including unsubstantiated allegations of a cover-up, abusive and derogatory remarks directed towards racing participants, and offensive commentary published on social media.”

Milligan admitted he was responsible for the posts in question and was issued four charges under AR228(a) and one charge under AR228(b).

Racing NSW Stewards conducted a hearing to determine the charges on Monday, where they handed down the penalty taking into account Milligan’s remorse, personal and professional circumstances and a number of other factors.

The total of the punishment handed down was eight months, reduced to four months, with a further two months suspended providing he does not reoffend, meaning he is outed from April 27 until June 27. Milligan was advised of his right to appeal.
