WA TAB reports almost $12 million in Cup wagering
More than $11.7 million was turned over on the Melbourne Cup through the WA TAB, with mystery first-four bets producing windfalls of $50,275 from a $4 outlay, $33,516 from another $4 investment and multiple $25,137 collects from $1 bets.
Other notable returns included an $83,791 collect for a South Hedland punter who staked $600 on a mystery first four, while an Esperance customer secured $11,900 from a $9 mystery trifecta and an Innaloo TAB bettor turned $2 into $16,758.
Straight-out bets also delivered big returns, with one WA TAB customer collecting $47,500 after staking $5000 on Point Of Law to win, while another $5000 place bet on Juja Kibo returned $17,500.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia’s interim chief wagering officer Andrew Potts said the Cup remained one of the most anticipated events on the racing calendar.
“The Melbourne Cup once again captured the attention of racing fans and punters across Western Australia, with strong engagement through both TABtouch and our retail network,” he said.
“It’s always exciting to see WA TAB customers share in the excitement, particularly those fortunate enough to land one of the day’s big collects.”
