Middlebrook Valley Farm has expanded its Hunter Valley footprint by acquiring historic Wakefield Stud.

“We saw this opportunity as a chance to further cement our presence, and reiterate our commitment as a long-term participant in the industry," Middlebrook sales and bloodstock manager Bernie Kane said.

Wakefield, located near Scone, is the birthplace of the 1992 Melbourne Cup winner Subzero and the property is currently leased to Newgate Stud Farm.

The Newgate lease expires on June 30 and Kane said infrastructure improvements were already underway.

The appointment of Tony Scott as a consultant coincides with the Wakefield purchase.

"It’s a massive coup for the farms and the team, knowing that they can call on Tony’s depth of experience gained both here and overseas, at any time," Kane said.

"His experience with nutrition and feeding systems, sales preparation, and general farm procedures, will be invaluable for everyone moving forward."
