Waterhouse angry over call to scrap Wyong 2YO race

Racing NSW is under fire from leading trainer Gai Waterhouse over a move to delete a two-year-old race from a midweek meeting at Wyong.

Five horses were left as acceptors for the race on Wednesday that Waterhouse was hoping to use as a stepping stone for a potential Magic Millions campaign.

Waterhouse says she was told that because two of the five entries were also nominated for Rosehill on Saturday, Racing NSW decided to abandon the Wyong race.

“Perhaps Racing NSW should copy the greyhounds and have a “stand down” period for scratched runners,” she posted on X.

“There would few double noms and few scratchings. In the UK, if (a) horse is scratched because of an unfavourable barrier, the trainer is fined.”

Sixteen nominations have been received for the Rosehill race, including Palmanova from the Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable.

Palmanova, a daughter of Tassort, was a $350,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale this year for Yulong and she has been to the barrier trials twice for a win and a placing.
