Werribee meeting moved due to extreme heat
Racing Victoria has deferred Friday’s scheduled meeting at Werribee to Monday January 12, citing forecast extreme heat.
The Bureau of Meteorology predicts temperatures of up to 41 degrees in Werribee on Friday afternoon and RV said the decision was made to protect the welfare of horses and participants.
Alternative dates were considered, with Monday selected as the most suitable option as no other Victorian meeting was programmed
Acceptances have been pushed back 48 hours and will now close at 9am Friday, while race distances remain unchanged.
RV confirmed its Procedure for Racing in Hot Weather Policy will apply at the rescheduled meeting to safeguard health and wellbeing.
Wednesday’s Sandown meeting was moved to Thursday because of expected hot conditions, while Friday night’s meeting at Pakenham looks likely to continue, with temperatures set to cool in the evening.
