Better late than never – ‘jumpy’ TAB website sees return of delayed Sky feed

Technical issues besetting the low latency Sky Racing vision have forced Tabcorp to revert to a delayed stream on the company’s wagering website while they investigate the problem.

However, the glitch is not affecting the fast broadcast of the Sky 1 and 2 channels on the TAB app, which is streaming the quickest available vision of thoroughbred, greyhound and harness meetings to its account holders, mirroring the low latency feed shown in pubs and clubs.

Punters had described the TAB website feed as “jumpy”, prompting Tabcorp to pull the fast vision from the online platform in recent weeks.

Vision on the TAB app is approximately five seconds ahead of the Sky Racing broadcast on Foxtel and 15 seconds faster than what is currently played on the TAB website.

It is understood that TAB is looking at ways to evolve the technology and have the low latency vision back on its website.

“We have instituted a delay on website vision to provide customers with a sharper viewing experience,” a TAB spokesman said.

“The change reflects requests from our website customers and has nothing to do with commercial agreements.

“The TAB App and Sky Racing has the fastest racing vision and is where the majority of punters want to watch their races.”

‘Tabtime’ – Tabcorp’s retail reinvention
Will Tabcorp’s renewed focus on retail deliver the wagering revival they are hoping for? Bren O’Brien dives into how it intends to reinvent the in-venue betting experience.

Last month Tabcorp renewed its long-standing agreement with Foxtel to continue broadcasting its Sky 1, 2 and Thoroughbred Central channels on the pay TV network.

Under the new arrangement, the wall-to-wall racing coverage on Sky 1 and 2 are now being broadcast in high definition, as was already the case with Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“Our relationship with Foxtel is one of the longest broadcast partnerships in Australian sport and we’re delighted to continue to grow and innovate the way in which all tri-code racing is broadcast and promoted,’’ Sky Racing Head of Racing and Sports Media Partnerships Selina Rumble said in May.

“Together we’re bringing live racing coverage into thousands of homes across Australia, complementing our direct distribution of Sky Racing into circa 4000 retail venues and close to 70 different countries. This partnership is a great outcome for Sky, Foxtel and the racing industry.”

National significance – Why a single tote matters so much for Tabcorp and Gillon McLachlan
There may be matters of greater commercial importance to Tabcorp chief executive Gillon McLachlan but there are none so symbolically salient as achieving a national tote pool.
