Blake Shinn suffers suspected broken leg in Flemington fall
Leading jockey Blake Shinn has been taken to hospital with a suspected broken left leg after a fall during a Melbourne Cup day support race.
Shinn was riding She’s Got Pizzazz when he came to grief in the straight in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes after the mare was tightened between runners near the 200m mark.
He appeared to be struck by two other horses after falling but was conscious and responsive when attended to by on-track medics.
After receiving treatment on course, Shinn was taken to hospital for further assessment and scans.
He had been booked to ride Just A Journey in the VRC Oaks at Flemington on Thursday.
Shinn rode Vauban into sixth place in the Melbourne Cup.
