Silver Slipper winner Straight Charge finds a home in WA
Straight Charge will stand his first season at Westbury Park in Western Australia after being secured by Gray and Patsy Williamson in a deal with Yulong.
The son of Written By won the 2024 Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
Straight Charge defeated stablemate Espionage in a time of 1:04.47s on a Soft 6 surface, faster than the winning times recorded by Farnan and Home Affairs in their respective Silver Slippers.
Straight Charge will stand at an introductory fee of $6600 (inc GST) alongside A Lot, Winning Rupert and My Admiration at Phil Ibbotson’s stud farm Westbury Park.
“Dave Morrissey from Cannon Hayes Stud gave me the heads up he was available,” Gray Williamson said.
“He’s a real athlete. The four-legged equivalent of Carl Lewis. The female side of the family is kicking on, too. His two-year-old full-brother Jarbardar won at his first start at Wagga and then finished second to the Home Affairs filly Natural Fling at Caulfield last Saturday week.
”Straight Charge has shown the temperament, speed and early maturity to throw those early 2yo and 3yo winners that the market desires.
“He’s also an easy mate as he’s Danehill free, and his physique will be a great attribute for the mare base we have in WA.
“Add in the Champion stallions Written Tycoon and I Am Invincible that Straight Charge’s pedigree brings and it was an easy decision.”
Straight Charge is out of Matryoshka, whose Zoustar colt sold for $1.45 million to China Horse Club and Newgate Bloodstock at the 2026 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
The stallion will stand at Westbury Park in partnership with Claire Williamson and Coel Hunter of Willaview Park.
Gray Williamson previously stood WA champion sires Playing God, Oratorio, I’m All The Talk and Metal Storm at his then Mungrup Stud.
