Toronado’s Mr Incredible a horse on the rise
Brett Crawford’s emerging three-year-old Mr Incredible will step into Class 3 company for the first time at Sha Tin on Saturday looking to continue his impressive rise.
The Australian-bred son of Toronado has won two of his three starts and heads into the 1200m Shek Sheung River Handicap off the back of an eye-catching barrier trial at Conghua, where he stretched clear to win by four-and-three-quarter lengths.
Regular jockey Karis Teetan, who partnered Mr Incredible in the trial, believes the gelding has returned a more furnished horse after a short break.
“I went up to Conghua and sat on him and I must say he’s come on,” Teetan told the Jockey Club.
“Because he didn’t race for a while, it was just about letting him relax and stretch his legs until the last 300 metres, and he did that. He pulled up well and has improved from the trial.”
Mr Incredible has lifted his Hong Kong rating by 18 points to 70 during his first campaign, but could need to lift his mark again to be assured of making the cut for next season’s Four-Year-Old Classic Series.
Teetan expects the gelding to be better suited next season, particularly as he steps up in distance.
“I definitely believe he’s a horse for next season,” he said.
“When he goes up in trip, he might be even better. We’re happy with the way he’s going and it’ll be interesting to see how he handles the rise in class.”
