Pozman crowned apprentices’ rising star
Victorian apprentice Emily Pozman has wrapped up the RMBL Investments Rising Stars Series with one heat remaining after her sixth-place finish aboard Conflict at Bendigo ensured she could no longer be caught.
Pozman holds an unassailable 68 points, 30 clear of Olivia East, with Sam Kennedy third on 34, sealing the apprentice-only series with two races to spare ahead of the July 9 finale at Flemington.
The 27-year-old built her winning lead by scoring points in all four heats across February, March and April, including victory aboard Conflict at Kilmore, and has recorded six top-two finishes from the 23 heats contested.
Pozman, whose claim was recently reduced to 1.5kg after her 50th metropolitan and provincial winner, also celebrated her first Flemington success earlier this year for trainers Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman.
“I have targeted this series all season with my manager and coach, so to be able to achieve that goal is both exciting and a relief,” she said.
“I’m happy with how this season has gone. I’ve probably had a few too many suspensions which has halted my momentum a bit, but I only have myself to blame for that! “Jockeys are competitive and we always hope for better, so hopefully it rolls into an even more successful season next year.”
