Sunlight’s brother Lyon gets Tamworth breakthrough

Well-bred Zoustar gelding Lyon delivered a timely reminder of his pedigree when shedding his maiden status at Tamworth, becoming the latest winner from one of Australia’s most accomplished families.

A son of champion sire Zoustar and elite producer Solar Charged, Lyon is a full brother to four-time Group 1 winner Sunlight.

Lyon was a high-profile yearling, selling for $850,000 at the 2024 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, before being picked up by Shaky Bloodstock for $50,000 through Inglis digital.

Prepared by Scott Singleton, the three-year-old had shown glimpses of ability in previous appearances before putting everything together to secure his breakthrough success over 1200 metres with Mikayla Weir in the saddle.

It was his sixth start with his new trainer having previously been with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
