Two-year-olds display spring talent at winter Warwick Farm meeting
Castillo King made an impressive winning debut at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, while Oh Yes She Did returned to form with victory in the juvenile fillies’ maiden later on the program.
Michael Freedman’s Castillo King, a son of Farnan, justified favouritism with a dominant three-and-a-quarter-length win over 1100 metres after settling behind the speed under Tommy Berry.
The $180,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale purchase defeated Eviction Notice, who was having his first start since being gelded, with Maritime Magnate finishing third on debut.
“He did everything right. I couldn’t be happier with his performance today, so it was nice to see him get the job done for the owners,” Freedman’s assistant Sophie Johnson said.
The Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum-bred colt became the eighth juvenile winner this season for Vinery Stud stallion Farnan, whose 10 stakes performers include Group 2 winner Ninja, with the Listed Rosebud flagged as a possible target.
Later in the day, Peter Snowden-trained Yes Yes Yes filly Oh Yes She Did held off race favourite Chanterelle by half a length to break through after transferring from Mitchell and Desiree Kearney’s stable.
“It was good to see her do what she did today because she’s been showing us quite a bit at home,” Snowden said.
The $240,000 Inglis Classic purchase is the fourth winner from five foals to race out of Lanikai and could now be aimed at another start after her first win.
