Band Of Brothers in all-the-way Ramornie Handicap win
Band Of Brothers delivered trainer Matthew Dunn a long-sought Listed Ramornie Handicap victory with a determined front-running display at Grafton on Wednesday.
Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Robbie Dolan sent the four-year-old straight to the lead in the 1200-metre sprint and the gelding dug deep in the straight to repel the late challenge of Manolo Bling, with World Alliance finishing third.
Dunn said the victory was especially satisfying after the horse’s recent black-type placings during the Queensland winter carnival without managing to break through.
“It’s nice to get one because he’s been racing so well without winning one,” Dunn said.
“He’s had a bit of bad luck this preparation and has been knocking on the door, so it’s great to see him get the result today,” he said.
Dunn also praised Dolan’s ride, saying: “Robbie rated him perfectly and when they came to him he found again, which is the sign of a very good horse.”
