Keeneland September gross surges past 2025 total
The Keeneland September Yearling Sale has already surpassed last year’s entire gross after Wednesday’s ninth session produced US$18,485,000 in through-the-ring sales, taking the cumulative figure to US$511,680,500.
The result eclipsed the US$510,539,900 generated across all 12 sessions of the 2025 auction, with two Book 5 yearlings sharing top billing at US$250,000 apiece.
A colt by Dialed In, offered as Hip 3093, was bought by Kimmel/Sallusto on behalf of Nick Sallusto’s Thorostock, while an Army Mule filly, Hip 3178, was later secured for the same price by agent Gracie Bloodstock.
Consigned by Paramount Sales, the Army Mule filly is out of Meetmeonline, a daughter of Line of David and a half-sister to Grade II winner and sire Bucchero, with the family also featuring Grade I winner and millionaire World of Trouble.
Through nine sessions since the sale began on September 14, Keeneland has sold 2027 yearlings for an average of US$252,432 and a median of US$150,000, with the gross up 4.93 per cent to US$487,624,500 from 2074 horses at the same stage last year.
The average is 7.37 per cent higher than the US$235,113 recorded in 2025, while the median remains unchanged at US$150,000, with horses not meeting their reserve increasing slightly from 677 to 680.
