Margaret Fife remembered for service to Cambridge Stud

Margaret Fife’s contribution to the New Zealand industry has been highlighted after her death earlier this month.

Margaret Fife has been remembered for her decades of work in New Zealand’s thoroughbred industry, including a long association with Cambridge Stud.

Fife, who died earlier this month, worked with Sir Patrick Hogan at Cambridge Stud and Monarch Farm. Her duties extended from accounts and broodmare returns to hands-on work with horses, regularly foaling mares alongside Sir Patrick and Lady Justine Hogan in her earlier years.

Former Cambridge Stud general manager Marcus Corban recalled her contribution across the business.

“She was a very hard-working and relentless person. She was very dedicated to the job,” he said.

“At the sales she would be the last person there cleaning up in the hospitality tent and then she would be back there first thing in the morning setting it all back up.”

Corban said: “She never stopped working. She was just one of those people who helped a lot of people.”

Fife’s career also included work for Jeff McVean at Glen Oaks Stud, now known as The Oaks, as well as Highview Stud and Ascot Farm. She also looked after the bookkeeping of international clients with thoroughbred interests in New Zealand.
