Bellatrix Star to be sold on Inglis online after being retired
Multiple stakes-winning mare Bellatrix Star will now be offered as a broodmare prospect through the Inglis Digital platform early next month after being retired from racing.
The mare has been retired from racing following a second bout of atrial fibrillation, with five wins from 13 starts, highlighted by Group 2 victories in the Eclipse Stakes in New Zealand and the Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield.
She also won the Group 3 Moonee Valley Champagne Stakes and Listed VRC Cap D’Antibes Stakes, while placing in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.
In January 2025, she suffered serious neck fractures after rearing and falling backwards while returning to her stable following a swim.
She was later cleared to race and produced a brilliant comeback performance when runner-up to Winnasedge in the Group 3 John Monash Stakes at Caulfield in July.
While preparing for the Group 1 Moir Stakes, Bellatrix Star suffered a further fibrillation episode, prompting connections to retire her in the horse’s best interests. The daughter of Star Witness will be part of the early September Inglis Digital sale.
