Crescent King breaks through in $100,000 Canterbury maiden
The Written Tycoon colt justified $2.70 favouritism at his third start, giving Peter Snowden reason to expect further improvement.
The Peter Snowden-trained Crescent King secured his first win at Canterbury, taking the 1100-metre maiden with the promise of more to come.
The Written Tycoon colt started as the $2.70 favourite under Zac Lloyd and prevailed by 0.3 lengths. He stopped the clock at 1:03.67. Snowden said the performance reflected the ability the three-year-old had shown at home.
“He’s still learning and did a few things wrong and wobbled around the corner, but he’s shown quality at home for a long time and is more settled this time than last,” Snowden said.
“At the end of the day he’s a nice horse and I like him. I think he has a future.”
The son of Written Tycoon was initially a $200,000 Magic Millions purchase from Yulong. He later made $300,000 when offered by Kenmore Lodge at the Magic Millions Horses in Training Sale, where Amy Feng bought him.
Crescent King is the first foal from True Moonlight, a two-year-old winner by Not a Single Doubt. A Lucky Vega half-brother to Crescent King is catalogued for the 2026 Inglis Ready2Race Sale.
