First-season sires face early test as seven-figure yearlings step out at Kensington

Monday’s nine juvenile heats at Randwick bring the first public evidence from a freshman crop led commercially by Anamoe, while expensive colts True North and Moneyball make their first official appearances.

The first official two-year-old trials of the 2026/27 season will bring together progeny from the new stallion intake and two seven-figure yearlings at Randwick’s Kensington track on Monday.

A total of 58 juveniles are listed across nine 850-metre heats, beginning at 9am.

The fields include 10 runners by seven stallions featured in The Straight’s assessment of the freshman-sire market. Anamoe, Hitotsu and In The Congo have two apiece. Jacquinot, Sejardan, State Of Rest and Top Ranked each have one.

Anamoe was the clear sales leader among the first-season sires in 2026. Sixty-five of his yearlings sold for $25.595 million at an average of $393,769 and a median of $350,000. His first crop contained the only seven-figure yearling by a freshman sire, a $1.1 million colt out of Secret Trail.

Two Anamoe juveniles are listed on Monday. Bjorn Baker trains Nonu, a colt out of Easifar, in the seventh heat, while Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott will produce Runaway Diva, a filly out of Fleet Dove, in the following heat.

In The Congo and Jacquinot were the only other first-season sires whose 2026 yearlings averaged more than $100,000. In The Congo has Gellar, trained by Gary Portelli, and Baker’s Heart Of Congo engaged. Jacquinot’s representative is the Geoff Allendorf-trained Eagle Jac.

Arrowfield’s Hitotsu has two runners from a first crop of 112 foals. Unmei contests the second heat for Baker, while Gary Nickson has Chasing Archer in the third. State Of Rest’s runner Stasis is in the fifth heat, with Top Ranked represented by Elite Deceit in the third.

Two colts bought for seven figures at the 2026 yearling sales are among the acceptances.

Moneyball appears in the fifth heat for Michael Freedman. By Frankel out of the American mare Miss Alacrity, he races for the James Harron Bloodstock colts partnership and related investors. McDonald is also listed to ride the $1.1 million colt.

Stablemate True North, a $1.2 million purchase, is by Snitzel out of Group 1 winner Krone and also makes his first appearance in Harron’s colours.

Zoustar and Ole Kirk lead sire representation with four runners each. I Am Invincible and Capitalist have three apiece.

Along with Anamoe, Hitotsu and In The Congo, Hellbent, Trapeze Artist, Bivouac, Farnan, Home Affairs and Snitzel also have two runners each.

Zoustar’s four are Star Of Oz, Starseer, Fly High and Gracious. Capitalist is represented by Ocean Veil, Shezablaze and Champagne Reign, while the I Am Invincible team comprises Fiji, Parquet and Flip The Script.
