Former CMR CEO Sellenger takes key golf role

Former Ciaron Maher Racing chief executive Ben Sellenger has been appointed Chief Commercial Officer of Australian Golf Services, taking on a key leadership role working across Golf Australia and the PGA of Australia.

Sellenger brings more than two decades of senior executive experience spanning sport, agencies, governing bodies and rights holders.

He most recently served as CEO of Ciaron Maher Racing, departing in March last year.

Sellenger has recently been consulting on strategic matters surrounding the Tasmanian racing industry.

At Australian Golf Services, Sellenger will lead the commercial growth agenda across Golf Australia and the PGA of Australia, with responsibility for partnerships, revenue generation and creating greater value for stakeholders across the game.

“I’m joining as Chief Commercial Officer at a genuinely exciting time: golf is now Australia’s biggest adult participation sport, with more than 4 million playing in some form and a $10 billion economy still growing,” he said on LinkedIn.

“Off-course venues up 17 per cent a year, junior memberships doubled in five years, and a new generation of golfers coming through younger and more diverse than ever.”

Golf Australia said Sellenger’s extensive experience in sports administration, commercial strategy and stakeholder engagement made him an ideal appointment as the organisation seeks to further strengthen the commercial future of golf in Australia.
