Glimpse of the future with first crop foals from New Zealand sires at Karaka

Buyers will get their first public glimpse of high-profile shuttle stallions Chaldean and Paddington at next month’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Weanling Sale at Karaka.

The 140-lot catalogue of foals also includes stock by fellow first season sires Mr Mozart and Hilal as well proven sires Savabeel, Proisir, Almanzor, Ace High and Per Incanto.

Super Seth, who was sold to Coolmore for $70 million, will also have progeny from his second-last Waikato Stud-conceived crop selling at Karaka while Cambridge Stud’s commercial rags-to-riches success story Sword Of State is also represented.

The sire of trainer Bjorn Baker’s Pago Pago Stakes winner Warwoven, who started single figure odds and was beaten less than three lengths in the Golden Slipper, Sword Of State will stand for an increased fee of $50,000 (plus GST) at Cambridge Stud this year.

Cambridge Stud is also home to Chaldean, a son of Frankel who won the Dewhurst Stakes at two and a Classic mile race in Europe at three.

The first southern hemisphere crop of Windsor Park’s Paddington, an Irish 2000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes, Eclipse Stakes and Sussex Stakes winner by France’s champion sire Siyouni, is also significant for pinhookers, traders and end users attending Karaka on Thursday, June 25, for the annual sale.

“The catalogue features the same commercial quality you would expect at the National Yearling Sale, which provides a fantastic opportunity for pinhookers and investors,” NZB bloodstock sales manager Kane Jones said.

“We’ve been supported by a number of leading vendors and top New Zealand breeders, with a rare chance to buy into Karaka-quality weanlings.”

All weanlings offered are eligible to be nominated for NZB’s lucrative Karaka Millions Series featuring the TAB Karaka Millions 2YO (1200m) and the TAB Karaka Millions 3YO (1600m).

Weanlings entered in the sale will be available for inspections at the on-farm parades, due to take place in early June, and on-site at Karaka with NZB agents available to inspect on behalf of buyers.
