Grand stayer Stockman retired
Proven Thoroughbreds stalwart Stockman has been retired, with the durable stayer set to begin a new career in equestrian pursuits.
The rising 10-year-old sone of Tavistock bows out after seven seasons on the Flat and a late transition to jumps racing, earning a reputation as one of the syndicator’s toughest campaigners.
A winner of four stakes races, he earned nearly $2 million in prize money and finished eighth in the 2022 Melbourne Cup,
As well as winning the Sky High Stakes, he also claimed the McKell Cup, the Caloundra Cup and the Christmas Cup for trainer Joe Pride, he was runner up in the 2022 Group 1 Tancred Stakes behind Duais.
After a switch to Symon Wilde’s stable, he showed promise over hurdles, but injury has prompted connections to call time, bringing the curtain down on a versatile and admired career.
