Jamie Melham out for 30 meetings over Cup day fall

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Jamie Melham has been outed for 30 meetings for a Cup day incident which resulted in fellow jockey Blake Shinn suffering a broken leg.

Melham was riding Fancify in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes, just two races after her now famous win aboard Half Yours in the Melbourne Cup.

Shinn was dislodged from She’s Got Pizzazz near the 200-metre mark of that race and was taken to hospital with a broken leg which is set to sideline him for some months.

A stewards inquiry into the race was delayed as Shinn was unable to attend on raceday.

However, it was concluded on Wednesday, with Melham pleading guilty to careless riding and set to spend a month out of the saddle.

“Jamie Melham had her licence suspended for 30 race meetings with the period to commence on Sunday 16 November 2025 and expire on Wednesday 17 December 2025,” the report read.

“In assessing penalty, account was taken of her guilty plea, good record and that it was a Group 3 event and the incident resulted in a rider being dislodged.”
