Ka Ying Rising passes Black Caviar with record Longines 135 sprint rating

The Hong Kong champion now leads the 2026 world rankings after breaking his own Sha Tin course record, six weeks before his planned Everest title defence at Randwick.

Ka Ying Rising has displaced Black Caviar as the highest-rated sprinter under the current Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings system, rising four points to 135.

The New Zealand-bred six-year-old earned the mark with his record-breaking victory in the Group 3 HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup Handicap at Sha Tin on September 6. Black Caviar had held the sprinting benchmark since receiving a rating of 132 in 2011.

Ka Ying Rising now leads the seventh edition of the 2026 rankings, four points clear of Ombudsman. His rating is also three points above the 132 Black Caviar received after her Newmarket Handicap victory.

The international assessment comes before Ka Ying Rising’s scheduled return to Australia, where David Hayes plans to defend the gelding’s title in the A$20 million Group 1 The Everest over 1200 metres at Randwick on October 17.

His latest win lifted his career tally to 22 victories and two seconds in 24 starts, alongside prize money of HK$160,923,900. He has now set six Sha Tin course records, five of them over 1200 metres.

Ratings expert Daniel O’Sullivan had already placed Ka Ying Rising alongside Black Caviar following the Sha Tin performance, while cautioning against treating different ratings methodologies as directly interchangeable.

Following the victory, Ka Ying Rising went into quarantine; he is due to head to Sydney and complete an Australian trial before The Everest.
