The demand for elite racing prospects as broodmares has never been as strong in Australia and Marabi, a daughter of I Am Invincible who won seven of her 10 starts, is set to create plenty of interest.

Due to foal next month, she is offered for virtual sale on August 27 through Magic Millions by Vinery Stud on behalf of her breeder and owner Greg Perry of Greenwich Stud.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have raced some good ones but nothing as gifted with natural, sustained speed like she had.” Perry said upon her retirement last year.

Vinery Stud’s Adam White said he is looking forward to consigning the mare for the sale, with high expectation as to her value.

“You can see why Marabi was such a fast mare. She has great strength through the shoulder and hind quarter. Lovely short cannon bones and is correct in front. She has a lovely quality head on her with ample quality all over." White said.

"The mating to Zoustar is perfect for her and she should have a lovely first foal.”

Marabi, whose half-sister Arista was also a Group 1 winner, is expected to be the highlight lot of a virtual sale which currently has 34 lots.

"To be able to offer Marabi as part of the catalogue for the Virtual Sale next Tuesday is a privilege," Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said. "She showed from her first start she was a very special racehorse."

"She strung together seven outstanding wins in succession culminating in a brilliant victory in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate.

Espiona secured for $4.15 million, joins Yulong broodmare band
Espiona, a Group 1-winning daughter of Extreme Choice, has parlayed a $3.3 million prize money return on the racetrack into a $4.15 million sale ring windfall for Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds.

"Marabi is bred by an extraordinary breeder in Greg Perry - in addition to Marabi, he's responsible for Group 1 winners Artorius, Atlantic Jewel and Commanding Jewel.

"Marabi must rank as one of the finest young pregnant mares being offered anywhere in the world in 2024."

The past three fillies/mares to win the Oakleigh Plate, Celebrity Queen, Pippie and Booker, have all been offered for sale after their racing careers. They sold for $2.5 million, $1.8 million and $1.6 million respectively, but all of them were sold straight off the track.

The most recent Magic Millions Virtual Sale saw Group 1 winner Espiona sell for $4.15 million.
