More trouble for Bathurst track as meeting called off

Racing NSW has hurriedly scheduled a replacement central west meeting after another Bathurst fixture had to be called off on safety grounds.

An inspection involving stewards and a delegation of senior jockeys before the first race on Monday found that a section of the track between the 1000m and 900m was unsafe.

It is the second time in the space of a month that a Bathurst meeting has been cut short because of safety concerns.

A horse slipped on the final turn and fell in a race on January 30, with jockey Adrian Layt lucky to escape serious injury.

Seven races have been programmed for nearby Orange on Thursday, with nominations closing at 9am on Tuesday, followed by acceptances two hours later.
