NSW fuel subsidy payments begin hitting bank accounts
Payments under Racing NSW’s $3.1 million Fuel Relief Support Package have started, providing financial assistance to participants across the NSW racing industry.
The total fuel relief initiative follows Racing NSW’s announcement of an additional $1.6 million assistance package aimed at supporting the industry’s lowest‑paid workers.
Eligible stablehands who qualify for the 2 per cent stablehands prizemoney bonus and work at least eight hours a week will receive $100 per week through to the end of May when the support will be reviewed.
The same $100 weekly payment will apply to casual race day officials, including swab officials, clerks of scales, starters, judges and barrier attendants who regularly service race meetings.
Eligible trainers, owners and jockeys will receive payments automatically through the normal Stakes payment process.
Stable staff payments will be made once trainers submit weekly staff hours through Racing Australia’s myhorseracing portal.
Raceday officials will be paid via existing payroll arrangements.
Lodgements opened earlier this week, with trainers submitting staff hours for the past two weeks and continuing weekly thereafter.
Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’landys said at the time of the scheme’s announcement that the decision reflected strong feedback from across the industry.
“We always want to ensure that the industry’s lowest paid workers are supported,” he said.
“This new payment, in addition to the 2 per cent prizemoney bonus, provides extra support when it is needed most.”
