Picklebet pays $19,800 penalty for taking bets from BetStop registrant

Wagering operator Picklebet has paid a $19,800 penalty for accepting bets from a customer who had registered with BetStop hours earlier.

An Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) investigation found Picklebet took the bets on February 9 this year and Picklebet closed the account later that day.

Under the self-exclusion rules, wagering providers cannot offer betting services to a person once that person has registered with BetStop.

ACMA said new laws starting on January 1, 2027 will strengthen BetStop further, including substantially higher penalties for breaches of the self-exclusion rules. The reforms will also require providers to close a self-excluded customer’s account within seven days, regardless of any pending bets.

Picklebet was one of six providers ACMA found in January to have breached BetStop obligations during 2024. At that point, the regulator was still finalising enforcement action against Picklebet.
