Racing Queensland unveils summer carnival with Listed Sunlight
The nine-week programme offers 23 black-type races and more than $28 million in prize money and bonuses, with juvenile changes leading into the January 9 and 16 Magic Millions meetings.
Racing Queensland has announced a nine-week summer carnival featuring the newly Listed $2.5 million Sunlight slot race and a new juvenile sprint named after General Nediym.
With more than $28 million in combined purses and bonuses on offer, the 2026/27 programme features 23 black-type races and begins at the Sunshine Coast on November 21.
The new General Nediym, a 1000-metre set-weights race for two-year-olds, will be run on the opening Mooloolaba Cup card. General Nediym won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in 1997.
Eagle Farm’s January 2 meeting will host the newly named Better Than Ready 2YO 1200m handicap, with prize money rising $45,000 to $150,000. The card also features the Group 3 Vo Rogue Stakes.
The juvenile changes form part of Racing Queensland’s $1.3 million, seven-race lead-up programme announced in September.
The Sunlight will headline the twilight Magic Millions Gold Raceday at the Gold Coast on January 9. Its third running follows the black-type upgrade confirmed in September.
The $1 million Racing Queensland Magic Millions QTIS race remains on that card, which offers more than $6 million in prize money.
