Rey Magnerio headlines capacity field for $1m Goodwood

A field of 16 sprinters has been confirmed for Saturday’s $1 million Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville following final acceptances.

Rey Magnerio headlines the race and has drawn barrier five, confirming the Melbourne sprinter as a leading contender to secure a long-awaited maiden Group 1 victory.

The Robbie Griffiths-trained star enters the feature off a strong second placing in the $5 million Quokka at Ascot and will have the services of champion West Australian jockey Willie Pike aboard.

Promising three-year-old filly Extragalactic shapes as a major threat after drawing barrier six and will carry the minimum weight of 50kg.

She is coming off a fast-finishing second in the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes behind Tycoon Star, who faces a much tougher task from the widest draw of barrier 16.

Other notable runners include John Hawkes Stakes winner Grand Larceny (barrier 14), WA mare Super Smink (13), local hope Watchme Win (12), and Sydney mare Flying For Fun (10), while Meridius (one) and Desert Lightning (four) secured favourable inside gates.
