Second winner for Widden’s Portland Sky
A bargain-priced filly by first season stallion Portland Sky has made a winning debut at Hawkesbury on Tuesday, becoming the sire’s second first-crop winner.
Portland Miss, trained by Richard Freedman and Will Freedman, defeated the Home Affairs colt Barracks in the 1000m juvenile maiden, scoring by half a length after securing clear running late under Chad Schofield.
Bred and offered by Mullaglass Stud, the filly was purchased by Tricolours Racing for $20,000 at last year’s Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale and is the second winner from three runners out of Smart Missile mare Shimmering Light, a granddaughter of Miss Finland.
Portland Miss is the second winner for Widden Stud stallion Portland Sky, who has three yearlings catalogued for Sunday’s Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale at Riverside Stables.
Portland Sky, a son of the pensioned Deep Field, is also the sire of Perth juvenile winner Daryte.
